Kachazi focused on honing his art
Kachazi says that he is focused on making 2024, a year of learning.
Rundu-based singer and producer Kalenga ‘Kachazi’ Ruminika says he is focused on perfecting the craft of making music and music videos.
Kachazi, who has been a part of the music scene since 2012, said his musical journey started at church.
“I officially started singing when I joined our church choir. Everyone at church and home always believed in my singing ability and I saw this from the amount of love I got. A few years later, I got to learn a lot more about music from my peers and that is how Kachazi was birthed,” he said.
“After releasing my first single, I met some guys with whom I started a group. In the beginning, everything went well. However, things got a bit sour later because there was too much conflict in the group. I eventually went back to doing things my way."
Acquiring experience
In 2019, he was signed to record label Tempo-Tempo, through which he released his first album, titled 'Oluwa'.
"In 2022, I released my second body of work before my contract ended with the label. Last year, I did not release an album because my focus was mainly on shooting music videos, which is a skill I recently acquired. So last year was dedicated to mastering the art of shooting visuals,” he explained.
According to the singer, over the years he has learnt more about how the music industry works.
“I got to experience how the management at Tempo-Tempo was marketing my brand and music as a product to my fans. Now I believe I have what it takes to enter the mainstream."
Future plans
Kachazi said this year he wants to focus primarily on shooting music videos.
"I am not planning on releasing an album this year, but that might change because I do have quite a few unreleased songs that I would love to release soon."
The singer also shared a word of encouragement for upcoming musicians.
“The music industry is not an easy road. You have to learn how to be patient and humble. Learn to put your ego aside because if you can set your pride aside in certain situations, you could end up very far in the music industry,” Kachazi said.
