JUST IN: Photography documentary offers 'multilayered portrait'
The team from The Project Room is soon presenting the book launch and exhibition opening of 'Fraitaxtsēs sores tsîn ge ra≠gâ, - Ondjembo yo Null Vier' at the Namibian Arts Association (NAA) in the capital. The event and exhibition by Ixmucané Aguilar involves guest speakers, performances, a book exhibition and a musical performance.
For the book-as-documentary, visual artist Aguilar worked closely with Nama and Ovaherero people - who shared memories and rituals of mourning brought about by the loss of life and land during imperial Germany's occupation of what was then South West Africa.
It is an artistic photography documentary that presents a multifaceted portrait of the genocide and its aftermath.
The event includes contributions by human rights lawyer Wolfgang Kaleck, as well as from Tristan Pranyko, the curator of the work. Poetry by Namibian artists Nesindano Namises, Fritz Isak Dirkse and Prins Kamaazengi also forms part of the experience.
The opening and launch will take place at 18:00 on Thursday, 9 November, at the NAA's exhibition space in Robert Mugabe Avenue. The exhibition can be viewed until 25 November.
