Drag Night Namibia returns with 'unyielding spirit of pride'
Following a deliberate hiatus on 1 June to prioritise the safety and well-being of performers amidst a surge of violence and homophobic rhetoric surrounding a recent Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriages concluded abroad, Drag Night Namibia has emerged stronger than ever.
With two intimate instalments, organisers call on audiences to join them on Friday, 30 June, to commemorate international pride, and for an encore performance on Saturday, 1 July. Both events are set to be held at Et Cetera (formerly Chopsi's).
“Drag Night is exploring the power of different venues in 2023, hence these intimate sessions not taking place at The Loft,” Lize Ehlers said.
"Drag Night has always been a beacon of resilience, empowering individuals to boldly express their true selves. Now, more than ever, they unveil their unwavering commitment to standing tall against hate and adversity. The intimate setting of these forthcoming shows allows for a deeply personal and evocative experience, where performers and audience members alike can forge profound connections and celebrate the unyielding spirit of pride.
"As the stage lights ignite, electrifying energy permeates the air, promising an unforgettable celebration of authenticity and unapologetic self-expression. Drag Night invites you to bear witness to the remarkable talents of their performers, who defy societal norms and shatter barriers with each breathtaking performance. From mesmerising lip-syncs to unforgettable dance routines, these artists embody the audacity and resilience that define the essence of drag," a press release read.
