DJ Chronic to launch NextUp
A PR agency for artists
Namibia Annual Music Awards best producer of the year 2018 Lucas Kambinda - popularly known as DJ Chronic - is venturing into public relations and artist management.
In a recent interview with tjil, DJ Chronic announced the launch of his artist public relations firm NextUp, set for Friday, 2 December. Taking place in Windhoek at the College of the Arts’ mirror room, the launch will kick off at 11:00.
The producer said his aim is to create a platform that will cater to the specific needs of individual artists, groups and organisations in terms of marketing, promotion, skills development and professional growth.
Drawing from his well of experience accumulated through many years of working as one of the top producers in the country, DJ Chronic said he saw it expediently necessary to create NextUp under the Super Star Records umbrella to carry out these tasks, with the help of a trusted team.
For this venture, he serves as the executive director while Ponte Lito is the executive manager. Cool Kid David, Vikta Juiceboy and TK The Rapper will be responsible for operations, marketing and sales, and corporate information respectively.
Conducive environment
“Our vision is to improve the landscape of the creative art industry, where artists can turn their art forms into reputable personal and professional business brands that can contribute to the socio-economic emancipation of all artists in Namibia,” DJ Chronic said.
“We want to provide a conducive environment through which Namibian artists can gain recognition for their creative art forms and attain competitive advantages to build sustainable careers.”
To carry out its duties, NextUp has three packages artists can sign up for: Silver – which costs N$700 for a one-month subscription; Gold - N$2 000 for two months, and Platinum – a tailor-made package that’ll cost you N$6 000.
Early-bird subscription forms are already available at Super Star Studios in the capital, or via email at [email protected].
“For many years, despite being talented and working hard to release their work, many artists have continued to struggle to get their music out to the public, and opportunities for performances are few and far between.
“It is for this reason NextUp was created to address these problems by employing practical corrective measures where artists are given an opportunity to subscribe to the brand in order to have their profiles, albums, videos and marketing and promotion needs for performances, publicity interviews, tours and more executed for them,” he said.
