Meatco board appointed
Meatco last week announced members of the newly appointed board of directors, effective 1 September, for a period of three years.
Some members were appointed on an interim basis last year, while others are newly appointed.
Meatco has repeatedly made headlines this year for its inability to compensate farmers on time, which agricultural unions have said continues to undermine their trust in the beef export company.
The ministry said it is confident that the combined expertise of the new board members will contribute to achieving Meatco's strategic goals and furthering its mission to be a leading player in the meat processing industry.
The public enterprise ministry announced that Sakaria Nghikembua was appointed as the board chairperson.
The ministry said Nghikembua is a reputable business leader with over two decades of executive leadership experience, primarily in the financial services sector.
His career includes roles such as CEO of Agribank and Group CEO of Momentum Metropolitan Namibia.
Expert board appointed
New members include Joseph Andreas, described by the ministry as a successful businessman, entrepreneur and founder and managing director of the Tulaing Group (PTY) Ltd.
Adolf Muremi, the president of the Namibia National Farmers' Union (NNFU), was also appointed as a new board member.
“Muremi brings extensive experience in the livestock industry, having been involved since 1995. He has marketed cattle and participated in Meatco's pilot projects.”
Paul Hilbert, a commercial farmer from the Okahandja district, was also appointed.
He previously served on the Meatco board from 2007 to 2013.
Stephanie De Klerk, an admitted legal practitioner who is currently a business development consultant at Sanlam Namibia, brings expertise in innovation, change management and risk management structures to the new board.
New board member Cyprianus Khaiseb is the director of KHAI-CYP Investments, with “25 years of experience in the agricultural and meat sectors.”
The newly appointed Petterseon Tjipueja is an audit partner with extensive experience in accounting and auditing across various industries.
Patricia Olivier brings over 32 years of human resources and corporate expertise to he board, the ministry noted.
Also on the board is Diana van Schalkwyk, a food scientist and managing director of Food Chain Solutions Namibia.
Abiud Tjipangandjara was appointed to the board, with the ministry highlighting his skills in project management.
