Karan to resume buying Namibian calves soon

Karan Beef Farming, currently South Africa's largest importer of cattle calves from Namibia, has assured Namibian farmers that all calf purchases will return to normal as soon as possible. This follows the announcement by the organisation's managing director, Jannie Botha, that operations at their facility in the Otjiwarongo area are being halted.

"Karan Beef is in the process of restructuring and making changes in Namibia regarding our calf purchases. New expansions and facilities are currently being explored and negotiated to accommodate calves in the southern part of Namibia," he said.

Botha added that Karan wants to maintain its status as the largest importer of Namibian calves. Karan Beef is known as one of South Africa's leading suppliers of beef products, with a distribution centre in Johannesburg and an abattoir capable of processing more than 2 000 cattle per day.

Its feedlot in Heidelberg with approximately 145 000 cattle is the largest in Africa, while it owns the largest feed mills in the world and is certified to export to countries such as China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, and various places in Africa.
