ECN, NAU work together for pre-election education campaign
The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has reached out to the Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU) as a key stakeholder to inform their members about upcoming electoral events and to ensure access for their officials to farms.
The ECN said it is preparing for the General Registration of Voters (GRV), set to take place between 3 June and 1 August in advance of the presidential and National Assembly elections on 27 November.
“One of the key responsibilities of the commission is to conduct civic and voter education ahead of both voter registration and elections," ECN said in a recent statement.
“In continuing our commitment to supervising, managing and overseeing the execution of free, fair, credible and impartial electoral processes, we are reaching out to the NAU to notify their members about these significant electoral events and to ensure access for our officials to these establishments.”
Educating voters
The voter and civic education campaign commenced on 7 March this year and involves face-to-face information dissemination sessions with communities nationwide, including those residing and working on commercial farms. The ECN said these initiatives aim to raise awareness among the electorate regarding the registration process and the prerequisites for registering and voting.
The ECN added that all Namibian citizens, 18 years of age and older, are required to register as voters, irrespective of whether they have registered before or not.
