Charcoal association renamed
The new name of the Namibia Charcoal Association has officially been approved and changed to the Charcoal Association of Namibia (CAoN).
The association will now start with its advertising campaign to raise awareness of the new name.
On 19 July, the CAoN pre-launched its prototype to harvest smoke from charcoal kilns and produce a valuable wood acid mixture that can be distilled to produce wood vinegar.
The association also offered a training session on BioChar and explained how BioChar, wood vinegar, compost and other organic matter like cattle or chicken manure can be used to enhance the quality of soils. The training also included information sessions on how wood vinegar can be used as a pesticide or fertiliser for enhanced plant health and growth.
Training
The CAoN is arranging a practical training session at Otjiwa Safari Lodge on 3 August, together with the department of forestry and the Otjiwarongo fire team. On 2 August, there will be a theoretical session to introduce the concepts of firefighting, specifically for fires in Namibia's rangelands. Teams from the police and the National Defence Force will be part of the training.
The CAoN AGM will take place on 2 September and their mini-expo on 2 and 3 September.
Here, CAoN will demonstrate the latest developments within the industry. A wide variety of exhibitors, a number of these not directly related to charcoal, will cater to a broad audience.
