Brazil donates N$2.2 million towards food security
Brazil has donated about N$2.2 million (US$120 000) to Namibia towards upscaling five food-system projects and facilitating skills and knowledge transfer to target communities.
Ericah Shafudah, Namibia’s country representative for the World Food Programme (WFP), said the donation presents unique opportunities for Namibia.
In 2021, WFP, in partnership with Brazil, supported the implementation of five community-based food-system projects: the Tsumkwe clinic in Otjozondjupa, the Olukula clinic in Ohangwena, the Epako clinic in Omaheke, the Stampriet School in Hardap, and the Opuwo Maternity Ward in the Kunene Region.
Shafudah said the donation will complement national efforts aimed at transforming rural livelihoods and creating employment opportunities for youth and women.
Agriculture minister Calle Schlettwein said the generous financial support resonates well with Namibia’s national development goals and objective outcomes in the agriculture sector.
