Woman dies after jumping from moving vehicle
News in short
A 31-year-old woman died on Tuesday after allegedly jumping out of a moving vehicle on the main road between Usakos and Arandis.
Head of community policing in the Erongo Region, Inspector Ileni Shapumba, confirmed the incident, which happened around 12:45. The woman has been identified as Lea Kwedhi.
According to Shapumba, a Toyota Wish seven-seater, carrying four passengers, was travelling from Usakos to Arandis when the vehicle's exhaust pipe allegedly broke, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
"It was further alleged that [Kwedhi], who was seated in front, unbuckled her seatbelt and jumped out of the vehicle while it was still in motion", ostensibly to save herself.
"She landed on the ground, sustained severe injuries and succumbed to the injuries. The driver allegedly successfully managed to regain control of the vehicle later," he said.
Kwedhi's next of kin have been informed.
The driver Petrus Dominikus Ndjamba (33) and three other passengers managed to escape unharmed.
Police investigations continue.
