Two killed on B2 road on Sunday night
Two accidents occurred on the B2 over the weekend, resulting in two deaths.
The first incident took place on Sunday at around 21:00, approximately 26 km from Swakopmund towards Arandis.
According to police reports, a Quantum minibus was travelling to the north when it experienced a mechanical issue, prompting the driver to stop in the middle of the road. One of the passengers, Andreas Mwatile (42) alighted from the vehicle without the driver's knowledge. Unfortunately, he stepped in front of an oncoming vehicle transporting employees from Rössing Mine.
Emergency personnel from E-med Rescue declared him dead at the scene. His body was transported to the Swakopmund State Hospital mortuary.
In a separate incident, a fatal accident occurred just an hour later near the "Welcome to Walvis Bay" sign on the B2 road.
It was reported that a BMW had become stuck in the sand next to the road after the driver pulled over. A Toyota Vitz taxi driver stopped to assist by towing the BMW out of the sand. As the two drivers were preparing to attach a tow rope, a Marcopolo bus approached from Walvis Bay. To avoid a potential collision, the bus swerved off the road. The taxi driver, Ndikwetepo Sheetekela Tobias Mwelitila, 43, attempted to run away upon seeing the bus approach but was struck
He was taken to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
In both cases, the Police will conduct an autopsy to determine the actual cause of death.
Both victims’ families have been informed, and police investigations are ongoing.
