Road recklessness continues
Over the weekend, the Namibian police reported five cases related to reckless driving.
At Tsandi, a man was arrested for allegedly driving without a licence. A 25-year-old passenger died in the incident, while another, aged 29, was seriously injured. The driver and the injured passenger were rushed to Tsandi hospital for treatment of severe injuries.
A case of culpable homicide, reckless driving, and driving without a license has been opened.
A police officer was injured when a man allegedly punched her, leaving a wound above her eye and on her cheek from her glasses. The suspect was reportedly pulled over for a violation and asked to take a breathalyzer test. According to the police report, he drove away, leading to a police chase. When the police later attempted to arrest him, he allegedly assaulted the officer. She was taken to the hospital and discharged after receiving stitches.
In Okahandja, a man was charged with reckless driving after losing control of his Nissan bakkie due to poor road conditions. The 23-year-old driver and his passenger were taken to Okahandja state hospital for treatment of their injuries.
