MVA Fund: 29 deaths in January

The Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund on Wednesday revealed that a total of 158 car crashes were recorded in January, resulting in 335 injuries and 29 fatalities.
The fund said extended condolences to the affected families, specifically those related to victims of a fatal crash on the gravel road near Okashandja village, resulting in the death of eight people. Three others were injured in the crash.
"The fund wishes to assure the families that the injured will receive the appropriate medical care and attention they need. Family members are encouraged to contact the MVA Fund service centre in Ongwediva for funeral and other benefits," a statement read.
Meanwhile, CEO Rosalia Martins-Hausiku called on drivers to be responsible on the road.
"It is alarming to note that Namibia lost 16 lives with 89 people injured during the past week due to road crashes. The fund thus calls for enhanced vigilance and responsible road-user behaviour from all drivers.
"We would also like to remind the public to report crashes to our toll-free accident response number, 9682, as doing so could save lives," she said.
