Cop granted bail after reckless driving spree

A Windhoek police officer who was arrested on Saturday afternoon after he crashed his car into a stationary vehicle and through the brick walls of two Hochland Park homes, was released on N$5 000 bail on Monday.

Constable Vetondouua Kanguatjivi was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he drove into a vehicle and through the walls of two houses in the residential area. It is alleged that the constable was driving the privately-owned 4x4 vehicle without a valid driver’s license and under the influence of alcohol.

The incident took place at around 15:45 at the crossing of Secretary and Penguin streets.

Video footage showing the trail of destruction left in the wake of a constable’s reckless driving was widely shared on social media.

Kanguatjivi appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court on Monday and was granted bail. He has been charged with

drunken driving, malicious damage to property and driving a motor vehicle without a driver's license.
