Road accidents reportedly caused a total of six deaths over the Heroes' Day long weekend.
According to statistics issued by the Namibian Police, 67 crashes, 118 injuries and six fatalities were recorded last weekend.
Police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi said to curb road accidents, they are actively collaborating with relevant stakeholders on public awareness campaigns, with a particular focus on driver behaviour change.
She added that officers will be deployed to accident-prone areas on all roads to increase police visibility.
“It must be noted that road safety is a shared responsibility and should not be left to law enforcement alone. Everyone is expected to play their part, even if traffic officers are not visible on the road," she added.
