Accident at Husab
Swakop Uranium, the Chinese company that owns Husab uranium mine, confirmed that there was an accident at the mine on Wednesday, July 24.
According to Swakop Uranium's spokesperson Winnie Mukupuki, the incident occurred at around 12:50 when a truck owned and operated by mining contractor Beifang overturned while the driver was unloading a load. The truck landed at the bottom of the mine's stockpile.
Husab's emergency response team was on the scene quickly and the driver was treated before being taken to a private hospital in Swakopmund.
"He is currently under observation but he is positive," said Mukupuki.
Swakop Uranium's executive deputy president, Irvinne Simataa, confirmed that Beifang's operations at the mine have been temporarily suspended while the accident is investigated.
All other operations resumed after all employees and relevant authorities were informed of the incident.
