Champions crowned at Afrocat’s beach volleyball league finale

Afrocat Sports Club wrapped up its beach volleyball league last weekend at A. Shipena Secondary School.

The league, which featured 134 matches at A. Shipena’s beach volleyball court kicked off on 9 November, attracting 26 teams battling out in the 2-a-side Female and male categories, and the 2-a-side Social Mix division.



Female champions

The 2-a-Side Female division showcased fierce competition, with Lea Nangombe and Soini Shipefi emerging as the overall champions. The due played eight matches, clinching six straight-set wins to secure 20 points overall.

The runners-up honours went to Naemi and Linda Nehaus after a balanced performance that saw them record three straight-set wins and three close 2-1 victories, totalling 16 points.

Anna Kadhila and Kristin Willem claimed the third position after four 2-0 wins and a single 2-1 victory to get 15 points.



Male champions

The 2-a-Side Male division standout performers were the undefeated duo of Simeon Ndaxula and Teodor Tomas, who claimed 10 victories in straight sets and two in three sets, comfortably winning the league with 34 points.

Close on their heels were Aloisius Ishitile and Tomas Shivute who also demonstrated consistency with eight straight-set wins to rake in 30 points. The duo of Mahachi Kudakwashe and Mutasa Kudakwashe secured eight 2-0 wins in the league, helping them secure the third position with 29 points.



Mixed division champions

In the 2-a-Side Social Mix division, the duo of Immanuel Hafenye and Meriam Kandemba dominated with six 2-0 wins and one 2-1 victory from their eight matches to clinch the overall title with 21 points.

Trailing in second place were Simeon Ndaxula and Maria Iileka, whose unbeaten record in eight league matches saw them collect 20 points from straight and three-set wins. Rivaldo Uirab and Anna Kadhila secured third place with 15 points from two straight-set wins and four three-set victories.



Unwavering community support

Speaking at the club’s award-giving ceremony, Windhoek Chairperson Joseph Haufila expressed heartfelt gratitude to the league participants and audience, emphasising that the club’s success is rooted in the unwavering support from the community.

Event organiser Tomas Shilumbu expressed pride in the successful completion of the league, further lauding the considerable turnout of spectators.

“We had a considerable number of spectators on Saturday and Sundays, creating a lively and supportive atmosphere,” he said.

Regarding participants, Shilumbu said they are confident each team was given an equal opportunity to showcase its talents while enjoying the sport. “The league particularly had a positive impact on the community in Katutura, with increased participation, skill development and greater awareness of beach volleyball,” he noted.
