Namaseb urges women to participate in social issues
Swapo regional coordinator for the Otjozondjupa Region, Imms Namaseb, has urged women to become more involved in social issues, saying they need to be involved in decision-making.
He made the comments during a workshop on ‘Enhancing discourse on gender justice dialogue’ held by the Swapo Party Women’s Council (SPWC) in Otjiwarongo recently.
“We need to ensure women’s full participation and decision-making in innovation, technology and digitalisation, which can be leveraged to deliver transformative impact in society,” Namaseb said.
More work needs to be done to ensure the recruitment of women into the structures of the SPWC, he added.
“We still have much work to do to ensure due implementation of our existing strategies, laws, regulations and policies to ensure recruitment of more members, especially women.”
‘Deeply committed’
According to him, SPWC has and will continue to play a critical role in ensuring that women are considered as a key segment of society.
“We need a strong SPWC and dedicated partnerships against disparaging attitudes, mind-sets and mentalities which hold women back.”
Women are often held back from achieving their full potential, Namaseb said.
“I am deeply committed to women’s empowerment and gender equality. I am saddened by how women are held back from their full potential, but at the same time deeply motivated to work to empower women in any and every way,” he said.
“Though there may be obstacles in your path, don’t be discouraged. Use them as stepping stones to leap forward.”
