Nedbank sponsors senior golfers
As part of its corporate social responsibility initiative, Nedbank Namibia sponsored the Senior Golfers Society of Namibia to the tune of N$20 000.

Golfers from the Senior Golfers Society of Namibia will use their sponsorship of N$20 000 from Nedbank to compete in the National Golf Championship – Central Round, which will take place from 20 to 21 September at the Windhoek Country Club.
The rich history of senior golf dates back to 1904 at the Apawamis Club in Rye on Long Island Sound in the United States of America, where a number of golfers started a conversation about the golf of elderly men.
The Apawamis Club offered its course for such a meeting and this duly took place in 1905. The players had to be 55 years of age and over and members of clubs in the Metropolitan District of New York.
In Namibia, founding members, numbering 11 members officially established the Senior Golfers Society of Namibia. The inaugural meeting was held at the Rossmund Golf Club Swakopmund on 29 December 1988 to approve the constitution. The principal objective of the society is to provide golf, social and recreational amenities and facilities for its members.
The National Golf Championship is the most sought-after senior golf event as it is graced by hall-of-famers in the golf fraternity.
The treasurer of the society, Gert Goosen, said the turnout for this leg of the competition is quite satisfactory considering the current climate Namibia finds itself in.
“We have 40 registered senior golfers for this competition, which is a good number considering the impact Covid-19 has had on the events arena,” he said.
The senior golfers’ society’s central branch has 75 playing members, all in the age bracket 55 to 90 years.
Nedbank Namibia’s marketing, brand and sponsorship manager, Helene Meintjes, stated that the bank’s involvement in the golf community will continue growing as there is a need to showcase the importance of the sport.
“As money experts who do good, we chose to sponsor this golf event as there is a mutual passion in the sport,” said Meintjes.
