Global award for Namibia’s EIF
The Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia received a certificate of Merit at the Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Awards
The Sustainable Finance Awards honour financial institutions and related organisations with significant contributions to the field of sustainable banking and finance. The aim for this award is to provide recognition to financial institutions that have successfully embedded economic, social and environmental sustainability into their organisational culture.
EIF was awarded for its recognition in outstanding success in long-term financing of exemplary financing in climate-change resilient livelihoods because of the projects that benefit local communities, protect the environment and ensure sustainable development, the award ceremony was held at the Achat Hotel in Karlsruhe, Germany on 30 September 2020.
Receiving the award was ambassador Andreas Guibeb of the Namibian embassy in Berlin. In his acceptance speech, Guibeb said EIF and Namibian people in general are committed to sustainable development and ensuring that resources are used for the benefit of all Namibians and in a sustainable manner.
He said Namibia was the first country in the world to enshrine the right to environmental protection in in its constitution. Since independence it has ensured that environmental protection and sustainable use of resources are included in all its developmental projects and goals, such as the National Development Plan and Vision 2030, which aims to make Namibia an industrial nation by the year 2030.
This award shows that the Namibian government and its people are committed to sustainable financing. The Fund also recognises the role played by all its stakeholders and civil society towards the sustainable financing of projects that benefit local communities, protect the environment and ensure sustainable development.
The Fund would like to recognise the strategic leadership of its board of directors. It is because of their commitment, determination and hard work that the Fund is receiving such accolade.
