An effective team player
She received the 2020 Nedbank Best Teller Award and Overall Teller Award at the recent Nedbank Namibia Top Achievers Award ceremony.
Wetumwene Shikage
Boois was born and raised in Otjiwarongo. She received primary education at Spes Bona Primary School and completed secondary education at Paresis Secondary School. Upon completing high school, she enrolled for an office administration and computer literacy course at the Windhoek Vocational Training Centre. She is currently studying towards a Bachelors in Accounting at the International University of Management.
She describes herself as a hardworking individual who always puts the task at hand first. “I am a family-oriented person and would consider myself highly proficient at organising. I like order and it is this trait that has led me into the career path I find myself in today,” she says.
She is a teller at Nedbank Namibia’s Ondangwa branch with responsibilities that include: processing branch withdrawals; deposits; the booking in and out of cash from senior tellers; daily checking of cash accounts; balancing of daily cash and securing branch stock holdings such as cards, assessing customer needs, introducing new products and services to clients, resolving customers’ issues and providing relevant information.
Boois has been employed at Nedbank since 2014 and has adopted a routine which helps her navigate her way to accomplish all tasks. On a daily basis, she assists close to 100 clients who visit the branch for deposits, withdrawals and enquiries. Her workload is manageable because she takes time to plan her day in advance.
“I manage to handle my already set tasks and the ad-hoc tasks that may arise during the course of the day. I get to meet and interact with new people every day and with each person, I must make sure to deliver an impeccable service so that in future, they can come back to Nedbank and recommend us to the friends and family,” she says.
Boois was able to excel in her career during unprecedented times easily through consistency.
“With the Covid-19 pandemic affecting all of us, we must go the extra mile to make sure that each set target is achieved. I worked and smashed my targets by making sure that even during these unforeseen times, when a client enters our branch, the service we provide remains world class,” she says.
She is an effective team player who believes it is a system that is used by successful organisations to make sure they meet their KPIs and foster mutually positive relationships.
“Being on a team that works hard is motivating for me because it pushes me to do my outmost best. If it wasn’t for my manager for showing me the ropes and my colleagues throwing in some tips when I started, I do not know if I would have made it this far.”
Accomplishments
Boois says her biggest accomplishment to date is winning the Best Teller Award and Overall Teller Award over the course of 2020 at the Nedbank Top Achievers Award ceremony which was held on 30 April this year. It shows how much work was put in to make sure the bank meets its targets.
She believes that “teamwork makes the dream work,” especially when everyone is on par.
