‘Radio chose me’ - Uejaa Kazondunge
A positive mindset
Multi-talented Uejaa Kazondunge believes that one of the best ways to face challenges is to focus on the positive.
Freelance TV and radio presenter and public speaker Uejaa Kazondunge continues to make waves in the media industry. Born and raised in Katutura, Windhoek, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in journalism and communication technology and an honours degree in communication.
She said her interest in radio presenting began early. An avid radio listener, the thought of being a radio presenter seemed "pretty cool", she said.
"I say radio chose me because God’s blessed me with the talent."
As someone with a positive outlook on life, she believes that one of the best ways to counter negativity is to focus on what is good.
"What you focus on, grows," she said.
Kazondunge described herself as humble, teachable and reliable.
When asked about her driving force in life, she said, "I want to make an impact before I leave this earth, even if it’s just for one person. I know I would have done my part and left this earth better."
Encouragement is key
Among the challenges she has faced in her career is workplace toxicity – she has not always had the best workplace experiences.
She added that a lack of employee recognition has been a challenge for her, and she encouraged employers to recognise when employees are doing well.
"Working and not being given recognition can be demotivating; a tap on the shoulder goes a long way."
Daily routine
The media personality is an early bird, waking up as early as 06:00.
She starts her morning with a prayer and then gets ready for work. She also spends time each day exercising, as she believes in keeping fit. "Working out is a huge part of who I am because taking care of myself comes first," she said.
Following that, she dives into her leisure time, where she indulges in watching her favourite TV programmes and spending time with her family. Finally, she ends the day as she started it: with a prayer.
In her own words:
• My love languages are acts of service and quality time.
• I love food, and I am a great cook.
• I’m a homebody, and I love home or indoor chills.
