A ‘beautiful beast’ rolls up
Rugged, comfortable 4x4 experience
The GWM P-Series limited edition's arrival is bound to impress in the off-road luxury market.
The ‘People’s Passenger Princess’, My.Na Cars’ Diana Master, has found an off-road automobile to suit her taste for the finer things in life, her spirit for adventure, and her pocket. The GWM P-Series limited off-road edition is all about muscle and performance, built for luxury and convenience.
In short, it's a ‘beautiful beast’.
Introduced to the streets of Windhoek earlier this month, on 17 June, the limited edition comes equipped and kitted out to make even the most arduous outdoor task as simple as the push of a button.
The winch, the snorkel, the 18-inch all-terrain tyres, and the aggressive lines of this motor vehicle add to its imposing presence. The side-view mirror-mounted indicators illustrate how blatant this vehicle is about its intentions.
Pop the hood to check out the awesome two-litre turbo diesel engine capable of generating 120 kW and kicking out 45 Nm at between 1 500 and 2 500 revolutions per minute if you want, but don’t strain a muscle lifting the bonnet; just push the button to raise it.
Convenience everywhere
Got your hands full with groceries?
Push the button on the key to start the engine remotely and warm or cool the interior while you unload your groceries at the back of the bakkie. Push the button to lower the step stool embedded in the tailgate to climb up without missing a beat.
Once packed, you can slide behind the leather steering wheel confident and comfortable in the knowledge that every passenger is wearing their seatbelt because your limited edition P-Series tells you so. If you have not started the car yet – you guessed it – push the button.
For relief from buttons, you can always use the 10-inch touchscreen infotainment display, or better yet, use the voice control. Again, a button on the steering wheel is another option to activate the voice controls, with which you can adjust settings for the air conditioning or open any of the windows, at your command.
As far as Master is concerned, among the creature comforts offered in the interior are double USB ports for the driver and front passenger. Cup-holders in the doors provide space for your coffee flask, and under-seat storage in the second row provides a hidden option for storage of your valuables.
The wireless charging pad is particularly convenient for those who spend every waking moment on their mobile phones. Heated front seats and leather finishes make the most of the spacious, roomy interior.
Safe driving experience
All-around curtain airbags ensure the safety of everyone inside.
The P-Series drives like a dream, and with the various high-tech assistance systems built into the automobile, the driver's main concern is to stay attentive. The ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox maximises the engine's potential. A 360-degree camera display ensures you have a clear view of your vehicle's surroundings at all times.
Driver assist technology is complimented with lane departure warnings, lane centering and lane keeping, which, once engaged, means this monster can basically drive itself.
The sleek and comfortable gear lever is easy to use and helpful; for instance, it engages the hand brake automatically when stopping the car and putting it in park. The emergency brake system will warn of imminent collisions and intervene to bring the vehicle to a gentle stop if required.
Adjustable drive modes include Eco, Sport, 4 Low, 2 Hi, and 4 Hi, as well as Sand, Mud, and Snow. Needless to say, this beast comes with four-wheel drive.
The digital cluster keeps the driver informed of everything from speed to revolutions per second, current gear selection, drive mode, kilometres covered, and systems activated. Range with current fuel, tyre pressure monitor readings, and adaptive cruise control are all displayed and ready to activate.
According to Pupkewitz sales consultant Aina Amushendje, the limited edition P-Series is already in high demand due to its value-for-money proposition. Complete with a five-year or 100 000 km service plan and a warrantee of equal duration, you can get your own from Pupkewitz for about N$720 000.
