Keetmanshoop elderly receive food parcels
News in short
The Keetmanshoop municipality on Tuesday donated food parcels to 60 elderly residents in what it called the ‘first consignment’ of its food donation project.
The beneficiaries are from the Westdene and Noordhoek locations of the southern town and, according to management committee chairperson Johannes Vries, these areas are often overlooked due to their status as affluent.
"As representatives of the citizens of Keetmanshoop, we pledge to donate parcels to our elders on an annual basis as we honour our commitment to provide food to the poor and vulnerable members of our town.
“We will continue to conduct community assessments in consultation with the regional council, churches and traditional leaders as our key partners, following the commencement of our rollout plan to feed every citizen of this town," mayor McDonald Hanse said.
He further noted that it warms the council members' hearts to know that they can make a difference in the lives of the elderly.
