JUST IN: Public talk on 'Working For Water' programme
The Namibia Scientific Society invites the public to a talk on Monday, 29 May, by Dr Guy Preston on South Africa's 'Working for Water' (WfW) programme. Preston, the retired deputy director-general for environmental programmes in the South African department of forestry, fisheries and the environment, was the initiator and leader of the initiative, among many others. WfW is an award-winning initiative that focuses primarily on the removal of alien invasive species in primarily wetlands, river courses and catchments. The above achieves the protection of water sources and wetlands to improve water quality and quantity, and protect native biodiversity. The programme is also aimed at alleviating poverty through job creation, the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises and value addition to industries, and knowledge transfer and skill development. The talk starts at 19:00 at the Namibia Scientific Society building in Robert Mugabe Avenue in Windhoek.
