Windhoek’s TID rollover campaign on track

The Windhoek municipality says that up to 99.68% of all prepaid water and electricity meters in the capital have already been adjusted.

This comes as the 23 November deadline approaches, along with the threat to deactivate the system.

Since last year, the entire country has been part of the TID (Token Identifier) Rollover campaign to update meters before prepaid services are deactivated due to the system’s limitation on the use of outdated tokens.

A total of 57 377 prepaid electricity meters have been updated, according to the City, with only 184 meters still needing adjustment.

This indicates a success rate of 99.68% compared to the 0.31% that remains outstanding. Furthermore, 1 919 prepaid water meters have also been adjusted, with 136 still pending.

The entire campaign was completed in-house by municipal employees, without any external contractors, the City stated.

Prepaid revenue is crucial for the municipality, with about N$55 million collected monthly just for electricity supply.

For the 2023 fiscal year, from 1 July 2023 to 30 June, Windhoek collected more than N$685 million from the sale of electricity services.
