Woman caught with illegal cigarettes

News in short
Tuyeimo Haidula
A woman was arrested last week after allegedly being caught with illicit goods at the Oshivelo checkpoint.

Oshikoto police regional commander, Commissioner Teopolina Kalompo-Nashikaku, said the incident took place at around 12:00. After a police search, 223 boxes of ‘Yes’ cigarettes - valued at N$44 600 - were found.

She said the 38-year-old suspect faces charges of contravening the Tobacco Control Act.

“She was travelling as a passenger from the north to Windhoek in a white Toyota Quantum minibus," Kalompo-Nashikaku said.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Tsumeb Magistrate’s Court today.
